I am among the founders of Umoja Village. Thinking back to where we started and our journey along the way — I am left in tears. It has not been easy. At some point, we thought life was unfair to us, but little did we know that patience pays!
Umoja has grown with strength, progress, and bond. Today, things are even better because we have managed to raise our children here through thick and thin. The Umoja Jewellery website has come as a Godsend because it has empowered the livelihood of our village! It is this social enterprise that has increased our economic venture.
With the intense competition around us, we were reduced to small earnings that almost made the business impossible. The Umoja Jewellery website gave us a chance to take our business to another level.
We no-longer fight with neighbouring villages competing for tourist vehicles to visit our village. We are comfortably preoccupied with fulfilling the website orders. 2019 was a good year, in every quarter, each individual earned more than they could in a year before the website.
